The need for a common worldwide objective (International Space Year and the environment)

China's participation in International Space Year (ISY) activities is discussed. Measures taken by China to resolve environmental issues in the 1980s and those planned for the 1990s are examined. Environmental education in China and China's Earth Science Program relevant to the ISY are briefly discussed.<
