Three dimensional finite element stress analysis of different designs of superconducting toroidal field coils for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor

During the conceptual design phase of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, a series of finite-element stress analyses of different variants of the toroidal field coils (TFCs) have been performed. The three-dimensional stress state requires three-dimensional stress analysis. The complex microheterogeneous structure of the TFC requires a special algorithm for analysis. On the basis of a study of four variants of the TFC, the latest one was designed and analyzed.<
