Long duration phosphor for a fiber-optic thermometer

The intensity of afterglow phosphorescence and lifetime from the fiber-optic thermometer using long duration phosphor, SrAl/sub 2/O/sub 4/:Eu/sup 2+/,Dy/sup 3+/, have been evaluated. In the long phosphorescent sensor head, the intensity of afterglow phosphorescence increases greatly and linearly with the temperature ranging from 270 K to 320 K with the temperature coefficient of 1.3%/spl middot/K/sup -1/. Temperature coefficient of the afterglow intensity is found to be more sensitive than that of PL lifetime.
