A computer controlled energy conversion laboratory for electrical engineering students

A computer-controlled energy-conversion laboratory for undergraduate and graduate-conversion courses is presented. The laboratory utilizes data acquisition, an electronic controller, and finite elements for analysis. The finite-element method was used to develop computerized analysis method by which students would be able to compare theoretical results with laboratory data. The purpose is to improve the power machines laboratory from merely a hands-on exercise to an in-depth analytical experience in which the student is able to compare laboratory results with theoretical expectations. This approach may be used in studying and analyzing transformers, induction machines, synchronous machines, and DC machines. An example is given to illustrate this technique.<
