Optimisation of the duty-cycle of RZ signals in optically preamplified receivers with arbitrary optical filtering

We show that the return-to-zero (RZ) sensitivity gain over non-RZ in optically preamplified receivers can be improved and exceeds 3 dB by reducing the duty-cycle. However, no further improvement is obtained for duty-cycles smaller than 33%.
