Residual Motion Generated by Tides in the St. Lawrence Estuary

A simple, analytical model has been used to compute tidally generated residual motion in the St. Lawrence estuary which is located in Eastern Canada. Particular attention was paid to resolving the residual currents into Eulerian and Lagrangian components and a comparison of these with density-induced currents. The influence of variable depth and variable breadth of the estuary on the magnitide of the residual motion was also examined. The role of other tidal constituents besides
M_{2}
in amplifying the residual motion was also studied.
