Mode competition and self-locking in a multipass CO2laser

Observation of self-locking is reported in a CO
2
multipass laser. Phase-locked pulsing occurred at or in multiples of the cavity round-trip transit time. The observed pulse half-widths ranged from 60 to 70 ns.
