New cold cathode for pulsed ion lasers

A simple, reliable high-current indium cold cathode for pulsed ion lasers is described. Currents in excess of 2000 amperes and pulse durations of 10
^-2
second have been obtained. Pulse repetition rates and operational lifetime appear to be limited only by the dynamics and lifetime of the discharge tube.
