Blown fibre experience in the local loop

British Telecom is embarking on an installation program to install fiber for its major business customers. In support of this activity, blown fiber has been introduced as a radically new way of installing optical fibers into the local loop. Blown fiber is a technique for installing optical fiber by blowing with compressed air into a preinstalled network of small-bore tubing. A brief review of single-mode fiber performance and effects of the cabling process is followed by a description of blown fiber.<
