Design of a compact dual-band uhf antenna for pap helicopter emergency rescue communication system

A dual-band airborne antenna is designed in this paper for People Armed Police (PAP) helicopter emergency rescue communication system. The antenna consists of a T shape monopole and two parasitic oscillators, which is extremely simple to be processed in engineering. Through deliberate study with the help of high frequency simulation software Ansoft HFSS, the structure parameters are optimized, of which the overall size is far less than the one in use and the VSWR stays below 1.5 during both working bands. The antenna is azimuthal omnidirectional in the horizontal plane with the maximum gains reaching to more than 4dB and 5dB at two resonant frequencies respectively. The radiation characteristics are improved in the depression scope reduction in the space above which satisfies the antenna design requirements better especially for the emergency rescue communication system on PAP helicopter.
