Design and operational constraints of NEA +800kV, 6000MW UHVDC bipolar system

The world's first 800kV 6000MW HVDC Multiterminal project of North East to Agra has been commissioned in September 2015. This particular line traverses 1728 km from Biswanath Chariali in Assam-Alipurduar in West Bengal-Agra. This NEA 800kV project had been developed stage-wise using parallel groups of converters in which each pole has continuous power overload capacity of 33%. The indoor DC Hall (75 m × 75 m and 40 m height) containing Smoothing reactors, DC filters, DC dis-connectors and other DC equipments have been provided to protect HVDC equipments from environmental pollution. Main Objective of this paper is to understand the basic operation of the bipolar UHVDC scheme, To study the basic coupling scheme adopted in North East Agra, To analyze the converter operation and to design the total HVDC Bipolar scheme in some particular software i.e. AUTOCAD and analyze the operation of these bipolar scheme.
