Cost- and vibration-minimizing selection of mechanical components of forward-feed drive systems with modern H∞-optimization: A novel optimization method for selecting components to obtain one axis or multi-axes drives which are simpler to control

A new method for selecting the cost-optimal components of a forward feed drive system is proposed which takes the dynamic behavior of components into account. Therefore, the practical approved method of Doyle's H

-control optimization is transferred and extended for discrete optimization of components. Inputs are component catalogues (here: motors, gearboxes, ball screw drives) with prices and their dynamic behavior as mass, stiffness and damping matrices. Output is an optimized selection of components for a feed drive system for a certain price with best possible dynamics for a simpler control. The objective is defined by using Laplacian weighting functions, which allows to create a desired frequency behavior (e. g. vibration-damping design) and a much simpler control. The derived mathematical optimization method can also be applied for other systems with perturbations, which require a certain dynamic behavior. -norm) versus price to carry out market analysis.
