Managed hybrid power supply system for telecom equipment

The Operational Expenditure (OPEX) and carbon emission due to dependency on grid electricity and Diesel Generator (DG) has been of concern for telecom industry. This paper describes an integrated hybrid power supply solution which uses renewable energy (solar) as primary power source and grid electricity / DG as secondary source for charging the battery. The system being proposed in this paper can be managed remotely through Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) browser over Ethernet. The system implements the maximum extraction of power from the available solar panel designed using Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm. Charging from the grid and DG is done intelligently based on grid power scheduled outage and solar power availability in the installed location.
