ZnO nanoparticle-based optical sensors fabricated by high current density electrodeposition and flame oxidation

Near ultraviolet light is widely applied for bactericidal treatments. In order to study the relation between bacteria inactivation and light power, near-UV sensors with low detection limit and high sensitivity are desired. Based on previous research results of applying wide bandgap metal oxide semiconductors for UV/near-UV sensors, we developed an in-situ fabrication process for ZnO nanoparticle-based near-UV sensors using high current density electrodeposition and flame oxidation. The developed sensors exhibit microporous texture decorated with nanoparticles. The sensors showed well-defined near-UV responses with high sensitivity and fast recovery.
