Robust Content Broadcasting in Vehicular Networks

networks (VANETs) are mobile
ad hoc
networks that support the communication among neighbor vehicles and can be extended to support communication between vehicles and infrastructures placed in the surrounding environment. This chapter evaluates the content delivery system (CDS) in a well‐established simulation environment to analyze its main performance indices (file transfer time, maximum vehicle speed for file reception, and CDS efficiency) as a function of the forward error correction (FEC) schemes, distance between vehicle and broadcast antenna, vehicle speed, and number of broadcasting antennas. For this purpose, the authors implemented the CDS into the NS‐3 simulation framework integrated with a mobility model, the intelligent driver model (IDM), and the MOBIL lane change model. The chapter first briefly overviews the basic concepts about vehicular networks (VNs). It then introduces the FEC algorithms. Finally It describes CDS simulation framework and focuses on the simulation results.
