Data Networking Services in the Enterprise

Two significant changes are occurring in enterprise local area networking. They are networks are increasing being used to support mission critical business applications and the networking technology is in transition from shared media hubs and router micro-segmentation to switching for increased performance. Another change that is anticipated is the wide spread use of real time multi-media applications such as broadcast video, collaborative interactive computing and video teleconferencing. These changes require data networks to move to a more service oriented model than is currently associated with enterprise LANs. The services are in the areas of transport, operations and policy services.
