A new hardware device to simulate the movement of electric train wheel on rail

In all of the control speed systems one of the main factor to analysis the performance of the system, is the speed control in the acceleration mode. The enhancing speed control in acceleration mode is like magnifying the brake performance. The goal of both speed control system in acceleration mode and braking system, is reducing the time duration of speed changes. Braking control systems is common between, cars, trucks, motorcycles, trains, etc. For this reason several project to improve the performance of the braking systems have been done. The most famous of this advances is Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). The base of ABS, is using the maximum of the friction between tire and road surface. In order to reducing energy consumption, train wheels and rails are built from iron. Since wheel and rails are built from iron, the friction between them is weak. Hence when the propulsion system tries to push forward the train, the driven will began to rotation and the speed of the driven wheel is more than the train actual speed. The name of this phenomena is wheel slip. As described in this paper wheel slip has a significant impact on the adhesion between wheel and rail. In the other hand train acceleration is function of the adhesion between wheel and rail. Therefore in order to improve the train acceleration, the maximum of the adhesion should be utilized. For these reasons in this paper a hardware simulator to implement and test the adhesion control methods is proposed.
