Assessing Participation in Decision-Making among Employees in the Manufacturing Industry

Participation in decision-making (PDM) results in a positive attitude for workers toward their job and an increase in productivity and efficiency. Thus, the main objective of this paper is to determine the implementation of PDM among employees of the manufacturing industry. The second objective is to determine their PDM in terms of age, gender, qualification and length of employment. In this study, a total of 160 manufacturing employees were chosen randomly from manufacturing industries in Batu Pahat, Malaysia. Questionnaires were administered to the employees. Then, the data generated was analyzed statistically using descriptive and inferential analysis. The results revealed that the implementation of PDM remains in the infancy stage. Besides that, employee PDM in the manufacturing industry does not significantly differ in terms of gender, age, qualifications, or length of employment. This present research is vital to the manufacturing industry in order to gain insight on PDM among employees in the manufacturing field.
