Diagnostic Device for Acute Cardiac Disease Using ECG and Accelerometer

In modern society, medical technology contributes an increased life span, but many people experience various chronic diseases. Among all degenerative diseases, cardiovascular disease has one of the highest death rates and requires swift action to prevent fatalities. If a cardiac disorder occurs, the person has a high risk of mortality unless treated within an hour. To help solve this problem, many people use regular exercise to maintain their health. However, in elderly populations, it is difficult to properly treat abrupt abnormalities in heart function occurring during daily life activities. For these reasons, this study proposes a device that includes an ECG, pulse rate sensor, and 3-axis accelerometer, to quickly take action during the sudden onset of heart problems. Simultaneous measurement of heart movements and motions provides a basis to more accurately comprehend a user's current condition. If the device detects symptoms, it immediately informs the hospital of the user's status. Then, medical personnel can determine whether a life-threatening condition is present and take proper action based on measured bio-signals.
