Four Case Studies of Low-Cost Systems

This chapter is a summary of four actual project case studies, starting with an event-driven, interactive military simulation (JTLS) using the standard architectural approach of programming directly to the operating system. The next project, GDSS, due to extreme complexity, funding, and schedule constraints (21 months), uses the Euler sphere as the architectural vision. There is a discussion of technical innovations that were invented, without which the system would have been impossible to accomplish. Following this, there are two Earth orbiting satellite ?>telemetry, command, and communications systems?> (TCCS) described back to back (TOPEX and Jason). Each TCCS is implemented with increased sophistication and technical refinements, culminating in superb product quality at a very low cost to the customer. These case studies are included as validation and proof that the approaches in this book are correct and may be duplicated by anyone interested in applying them.
