Ytterbium doped phosphate glass air-clad photonic crystal fiber laser

Due to the higher level of rare ion solubility in phosphate glasses than in silica, the length of the laser phosphate fibre can be substantially decreased even below ten centimetres at watt-level single-frequency operation [1,2]. Although phosphate glass fibre suffers from higher propagation loss than silica fibre, there is the substantial prospect for phosphate glass PCF of laser application in compact arrangement.
