Magnetic Properties of Fe3(Al0.4Si0.6) Alloy Single Crystal with DO3 Structures

Previous structural analyses indicated that only the DO
₃
-type structure exists in Sendust alloy. To determine the relation between the degree of order in the DO
₃
phase and the soft magnetic properties, samples were annealed at 1200°C for two hours and then either slowly cooled to room temperature, or rapidly quenched, and the magnetic properties were measured. Bright-field micrographs showed both types of alloy to have a DO
₃
structure, but with much greater order in the slowly cooled than in the quenched sample. The temperature dependence of K
₁
was found to change greatly with the degree of order; studies on the relation between degree of order and μ and H
_c
are underway.
