Application trends in AC motor drives

The authors discuss the technical and application trends in industrial AC motor drives. They consider the historical and technical flow of the application trends of industrial motor drives, focusing on how motor drives have been enhanced in present AC drives and how the trends have played a key role in improving productivity and the quality of the products. The following applications are considered: rolling mill main drives, beatless control for a PWM inverter-fed induction motor drive, speed-matching control between drives, and sensorless motor drives. Some of projected future technical investigations are also discussed.<
