The united design method of a transmission tower and the foundations

A transmission tower and the foundations are usually designed separately. A transmission tower is designed as the truss structure and four of the lowest points of tower members are fixed without considering displacement of foundations. This is the reason why the allowable displacement of foundations is strictly limited. The authors have developed a new design code called "the united design method of a transmission tower and the foundations", with studying interactions between displacement of the foundations and the stress concentration of transmission tower's members. They analyzed many cases of load directions, topographic and geological features, and foundation types, using three-dimensional frame analysis. And then they found that allowable displacement of large transmission towers can be much larger with consideration of the stress concentration of transmission tower's members and this is cheaper way for total construction cost.
