Abstract:

Changes and additions to IEEE Std. 802.11-1999 are provided to support the new highrate physical layer (PHY) for operation in the 5 GHz band.
Scope:
To develop a Higher Speed PHY for use in fixed, moving or portable Wireless Local Area Networks. The PHY will be used in conjunction with the 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC). The 802.11 MAC will be reviewed to assure its capability to operate at the speeds targeted.
Purpose:
To create a higher speed wireless access technology suitable for data, voice and image information services.
