What is the role of intelligent methods in clinical gait analysis?

This presentation opens up an area which, whilst having the potential to benefit from intelligent methods, has had little significant development in such techniques. This is done from the perspective of the author, who has little experience himself of intelligent methods, but does have a clear idea of areas in which they may be applicable. The aim of the presentation is to briefly outline these areas. From the point of view of analysing data, there are three broad questions. (1) Can we identify patients who have similar gait patterns? (2) Can we in some way quantify how different gait patterns are? (3) Can we classify patients into different groups on the basis of gait pattern?.
