Modification of properties of metal containing carbon films by swift heavy ion irradiation

Conducting graphitic nanowires embedded within a nonconducting matrix can be manufactured using swift heavy ion irradiation of diamond-like carbon or fullerene thin films. A possibility of increase of conductivity of the wires by doping of the films by metal atoms/nanoclusters to make field emitters will be discussed.
