Implementation of finite-element analysis in a cage induction motor electrical design program

The use of separate reduced models for both stator and rotor, together with the familiar steady-state per-phase equivalent circuit, has facilitated the development of a finite-element based analysis for induction motors that is both accurate and fast enough for use in a large induction motor design office. The method, has been shown to give performance prediction accuracies that compare favourably with classical techniques over a range of pole numbers and ratings. The method outlined has been implemented in a performance prediction program named FEPERF, which runs on a standard workstation.
