Parking meters in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, accept payment via cellphone. Today, each meter is identified by a numerical code, but this application could be adapted for location technology when location precision improves. Such a system reduces the costs of cash collection as well as the problem of theft. Similar systems could be used at vending machines and for buying tickets at box offices.
