Summary:Although there have been substantial improvements in interprocess
communication (IPC) performance (in particular round-trip IPC time) in
recent years, further reduction of the IPC penalty is still important
for parallel applications and microkernel-based operating systems. We
describe a number of new software and hardware techniques that we are
