Linking
Various linking methods enable you to easily navigate in from external databases, within IEEE Xplore, and out to external databases.
Reference Links

AbstractPlus records for most IEEE journals and magazines published since 1995 or 1996 contain reference lists. Reference lists include links to the Abstract or AbstractPlus, full text PDF, or full text HTML of IEEE and IET documents (journal/magazine articles, conference papers, or standards) within IEEE Xplore starting from 1988. Access to the referenced document depends on your online subscription.

Note
Reference sections are not available for the following:
• IEEE conference proceedings and standards
• IET journals, magazines, and conference proceedings

Citing Documents

Navigate easily through IEEE Xplore to follow your research interests. View Citing Documents in the AbstractPlus record - IEEE documents contained in IEEE Xplore that cite the document you are currently viewing. The individual citing documents are linked so you can further navigate to the Abstract or AbstractPlus record, Full text PDF, or full text HTML.

CrossRef

As a member of CrossRef, the IEEE is proud to include outbound reference links to other publisher content registered in the CrossRef system. CrossRef links appear in IEEE journal and magazine article reference lists in AbstractPlus records. Selecting the CrossRef link directs you to the publisher's destination Web address via a unique and persistent Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Access to content in the destination publisher's site depends on your subscription rights.

ISI® Inbound Links

The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) and IEEE have a linking arrangement whereby mutual ISI Web of KnowledgeSM and IEEE online subscribers can link to full text in IEEE Xplore. Once links are in place, ISI Web of Science® and ISI Current Contents Connect® subscribers can link to full text available in IEEE Xplore.

For more information or to activate these links through ISI, visit http://thomsonscientific.com/support/.

Author Search Links

AbstractPlus records contain hyperlinked author names. When you select an author name, a search is initiated on all documents written by the selected author. This functionality enables the user to quickly perform an author search on the entire database without leaving the existing page or having to enter new search criteria.

Index Term Search Links

AbstractPlus records contain hyperlinked index terms. When you select an index term, a search is initiated on all documents in the database containing the selected index term.

OPAC Links

To facilitate linking between a library's Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) and the corresponding title, IEEE Xplore provides a table with publication and linking information for journals, magazines, conference proceedings, and standards. This table gives librarians the information necessary to build links from OPAC records directly to the publication's page in IEEE Xplore. The links created from this table will remain intact. For journal and magazine titles, links can also be created to the issue's table of contents.

OpenURL

IEEE Xplore supports the OpenURL standard 1.0. Links are enabled between unsubscribed content in IEEE Xplore to a library's resolver (the "link server") leading users to appropriate access to the institution's resources.
