Cohesive energy calculation for cortical bone matrix

Cortical bone tissue is a complex, hierarchical composite of mineral and organic constituents organized and interacting in such a manner to result in a truly unique material. The cohesive energy of an idealized cortical bone matrix was determined from its biochemical composition. A correlation has been made between the cohesive energy and the mechanical properties of bone and compared with common metals. An idealized cortical bone matrix has a very high cohesive energy compared to metals.
