A trend to super distributed system and standardization activity in OMG

As the penetration of computers in household and industrial devices continues to grow, much attention is being focused on ubiquitous and wearable computers. All around us, devices and equipment in buildings, homes, offices, factories, streets, and automobiles, as well as various entities of the social infrastructure, are incorporating computer power and interconnecting via the network. In short, it is now becoming possible to construct a super distributed system. Furthermore, next-generation information systems that combine this super distributed system with the so-called Internet system promise to provide people and society with even better services. In the home automation and factory automation fields, development and world standardization has begun on the "Home Network" and "Field Network" for industrial control, both of which should become part of the communication platform for the super distributed system. These fields also make use of distributed-object technology. Making this a reality will require, at the very minimum, the development of interworking standards, enabling, for example, a processor to detect processors in other devices with which it can safely interact, in new and unknown environments, the formation of groups that support interworking among processors, the deployment of processors in mobile units, and intelligent devices to work together in real time. Systems supported by such interworking processors are called super distributed systems.
