A new multiplexing principle

A multiplexing principle based on common multimode cavities (CMCs) in which resonances are excited at dedicated channel frequencies is introduced. This method provides conspicuous advantages, especially in combination with degenerate cavities. The principle is explained and experimentally verified by a diplexer design using one CMC with TE/sub 112/ and TM/sub 110/ resonances. Due to the compact and low-mass design, this multiplexing principle is well suited for satellite applications. Although it allows only a maximum of three multiplexed channels, it can easily be combined with other multiplexing methods, leading to overall mass reduction for multichannel multiplexer equipment.<
