Introduction to "Certain topics in telegraph transmission theory"

In April 1928, Harry Nyquist published the classic paper, "Certain Topics in Telegraph Transmission Theory" in the Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. The paper gives a "mathematical" in addition to an "engineering" point of view of the subject matter. The history of digital communications has proved many of the concepts to be fundamental and they inspired and facilitated future developments in communication theory. As the title indicates, a number of important and interesting topics are considered. In this introduction, the author highlights some, though not all, of the topics and results.
