Connexion by Boeing/sup SM/-broadband satellite communication system for mobile platforms

The Connexion by Boeing/sup SM/ will provide broadband data services and live TV to aircraft and other mobile platforms using leased Ku-band satellite transponders. System capacity and coverage will grow with market demand by leasing additional transponders. The forward link to the aircraft provides 20-40 Mbps of shared capacity. Mobile platforms may transmit at up to 1.5 Mbps on the return link. Multiple platforms typically share each return link transponder. The aggregate adjacent satellite interference produced by all platforms simultaneously sharing a transponder is strictly controlled to be below the level of interference produced by a single VSAT terminal. CONUS service uses Boeing phased array antennas.
