An experimental investigation into the performance of asymmetric screened rooms for electromagnetic measurements

An experimental investigation into the behaviour of asymmetric screened rooms is reported. A qualitative assessment of the theoretical basis is described as justification for the approach. Results are presented which illustrate the validity of the approach in suppressing field strength variations which can also be interpreted as mode control within the chambers. The results presented cover frequency scaled models corresponding to chambers of 50 wavelengths or so. It is shown that field strength deviation can be reduced to less than 10 dB over considerable frequency ranges. The work illustrates that by a simple modification of chamber wall shape a significant economic improvement can be made to chamber performance.<
