A method of distinguishing combined mode coupling regimes when polarisation mode dispersion is measured by the interference method

This paper has suggested that the standard method of measuring PMD by interferometry is inadequate. In particular it fails to address the presence of both random and deterministic PMD in a fibre. Such a situation can lead to erroneous results. This paper has shown that one method of detecting this situation is by use of the FT properties of convolution.
