Non-Isolated Bidirectional Multiport Converter for LVDC Microgrid

A modified non-isolated multiport bidirectional DC-DC converter has been proposed. The converter is applicable in combining sources such as PV and battery for a 48V LVDC Microgrid. In fact, by combining the intermittent PV and battery advantages of different input sources are gathered. In the proposed topology, the load power is easily catered by supply from the two input ports. Compared to conventional bidirectional converter the number of components reduces which makes the structure more compact. The utilisation of battery in both charging and discharging mode of operation helps in catering to various load requirements. Since PV is intermittent in nature the power available from it depends on solar irradiation. So based on load variation and change in solar insolation the battery absorbs the surplus power from PV or discharges to meet the additional load requirements. In addition to that 48V output is maintained at the output port by using suitable controllers. The MPP operation of the PV is executed by INC Algorithm. The converter with suitable control logic is tested in the simulation platform for a step change in load.
