A case for design 'A' induction motors

The authors identify opportunities to obtain improved motor efficiency as well as a longer thermal life by using National Electric Manufacturers Association (NEMA) design A motors. The capital outlay required to control starting current when applicable and the energy savings achieved through design A motor use are contrasted. The discussion is confined to NEMA sizes in the range of 1-200 hp. However, the same principle can be applied to larger-size machines.<
