The design and implementation of a solid state imaging system for visible light and X-ray imaging

The design and implementation of an imaging system based on a 256*256 square pixel, scientific grade, charge-coupled photodiode array with 40- mu m center-to-center pixel spacing is presented. Output from the array is directly digitized to 9 bits at 5 MHz. The system is suitable for visible light and X-ray quantitative microscopy. It incorporates selected area scanning, data volume reduction by subsampling, and a variable integration time for low-light-level imaging.<
