Effect of handset antenna diversity on a high data rate packet CDMA wireless system

High data rate (HDR) is a method for transmission of wireless packet data at high rates which is based on code division multiple access (CDMA) technology. We have developed a model which gives data throughput results for an HDR system using proportional fairness scheduling. We give results obtained using this which demonstrate the improvement in throughput produced by using terminal arrays, and compare the performance of MMSE (minimum mean square error) and MRC (maximal ratio combining) algorithms. These results allow us to study the difference between maximising signal power (MRC) and combined signal enhancement/interference cancellation (MMSE).
