The influence of microwave irradiation on human epithelial cells

The authors studied changes in electronegativity (ENN) and cell membrane permeability under the influence of microwave radiation of wavelengths 8 and 16 mm. Experiments were performed on human buccal epithelium cells of four female donors of age 20-21 years. The data presented show the increase of stainability of cells after microwave irradiation and thereafter the increase of permeability of cell membranes. Almost the same increase in membrane permeability was detected after irradiation cells with microwaves of wavelength 16 mm. These phenomena are observed after 5 seconds of irradiation that is less than ENN reaction (mainly 15 seconds) and may be regarded as an evidence of cell damage.
