Field-based analysis for series DC motors

The paper describes a finite element technique for modelling transient fields in a series DC motor. The method is based on a coupled fields and circuit equation approach that allows the commutators and brushes to be modelled by switches to account for the commutation process. Computational and experimental results of the motor are included.
