Transient characteristics of parallel running of the 20 kVA superconducting synchronous generator and a conventional one

A description is given of electrical transient characteristics of the parallel operation of a 20-kVA superconducting synchronous generator and a conventional one. In the experimental power system, the superconducting generator is connected through reactors (artificial transmission lines) to a regional power system (infinite bus), and the conventional generator (20 kVA) is connected to the terminal of the superconducting generator. Synchronous closing tests, loss of synchronism tests, and disconnecting and reclosing tests were performed. It was found that by installing a superconducting generator (SCG) in power systems, voltage stability and power system stability can be improved in transient states as well as in steady states, and the variation of armature current of SCG during a transient period is much larger than that of the conventional one. Simulation results in good agreement with the experimental results were also obtained.<>
