The ferroresonance computation of single-phase small power transformers encountered in low-voltage electric installations

The paper quantitatively investigates the ferroresonance phenomena that occurs at the capacitive connection of a small power iron-core transformer that is encountered in low-voltage installations. The transients are often associated with high levels of distortion for the current and voltage waveforms that also exhibit extreme amplitudes. Thus, adopting an adequate analytical function for describing the transformer magnetic characteristics, the associated nonlinear differential equations that model the transient state, are numerically solved, extracting the main electric quantities temporal evolution. Additionally, their critical investigation is also performed suggesting some mitigations techniques of the phenomena undesirable consequences.
