Improvement of Urban Road Capacity via Opening Communities Based on Kirchhoff-BPR model

A city is mainly composed of residential communities, in which each roadway is the most significant constitution of the road network structure. Under the unprecedentedly tremendous social traffic pressure, promoting adoption of opening up the gated communities and releasing the road network resources in the communities are extremely meaningful to solve the temporary traffic problem. In this paper, Kirchhoff's current law (KCL) and Bureau of Public Road model (BPR) are employed as the core algorithm to analyze the open residential communities' impact on surrounding road capacity. Through abstracting a community in Nanjing into a model, we painted the route of the traffic flow from location A to B. Then we built a model which regards whether to open the community as independent variety and the overall time T for all cars' passing as dependent variety. During the experiment, it occurs to Braess' paradox in the road network. It is elaborated that the occurrence of Braess' paradox is the effect of oversize side selected, excessive crossings and rare given traffic flow. Hence, this paradox would be eliminated by enlarging the initial traffic flow.
