Structural and intrinsic magnetic properties of Y/sub 3/(Fe/sub 0.96/Ti/sub 0.04/)/sub 29/ and its nitride

The Y/sub 3/(Fe/sub 0.96/Ti/sub 0.04/)/sub 29/ compound has a monoclinic Nd/sub 3/(Fe,Ti)/sub 29/-type (P21/c) structure, and an easy-cone type anisotropy. The Curie temperature T/sub C/ of the monoclinic 3:29-type Y/sub 3/(Fe/sub 0.96/Ti/sub 0.04/)/sub 29/ is about 403 K, which is slightly higher than that of the 2:17-type Y/sub 2/Fe/sub 17/ (325 K) and lower than that of the 1:12-type YFe/sub 11/Ti (524 K). The average iron magnetization of the Y/sub 3/(Fe/sub 0.96/Ti/sub 0.04/)/sub 29/ is 1.87 /spl mu//sub B/ at 4.2 K. This value is higher than the corresponding value of 1.7 /spl mu//sub B/ for the 1:12-type one, and lower than the value of 2.01 /spl mu//sub B/ for the Y/sub 2/Fe/sub 17/ one. These results confirm the fact that 3:29-type structure is the intermediate between the 2:17-type and 1:12-type ones.
