A method for determining the minimum dimension of the steady-state equation of a switching network

In this paper, the concept of the steady-state variables (SSVs) of a switching network is presented. These variables represent the minimum set of state variables required to determine the steady-state operation of a switching network. The starting point of the SSV is a reduction of the dimension of the state equations in each sequence of operation, and their end result is a significant reduction of the number variables and equations in the steady-state problem. Using the concept of the SSV, the computation time and the convergence properties of any algorithm used to solve the steady-state equation can be greatly improved. A computer-based method will be presented for systematically determining the SSVs of a switching network. This algorithm is implemented with a simulation tool and an optimization program, which is used to solve the steady-state equation of a power converter. Based on the principle of the SSV, the computation of the steady-state solution of some power converters will be presented.
