Convergenge of an optimal channel estimation algorithm for DS-CDMA systems in time-varying channels with strong interference

An optimal algorithm for channel parameter estimation in direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS) systems with strong interference is examined in this paper. The algorithm is based on the maximum likelihood (ML) criterion and a modification of the extended Kalman filter. The algorithm is shown with an asymptotic analysis to determine the actual channel parameters. A complete implementation of the algorithm is described, and its transient behavior is examined by computer simulations.
